Battle Scarred (Schweden)

Gebt mal eine kurze Bandvorstellung.

Yeahh. Das wären ich (Puncc, Gesang und Gitarre); ich gründete die Band 1995 mit meinem Cousin und einem Schulfreund. In all den Jahren gab es mehrere Bandbesetzungen bzw. Bandumbesetzungen. Das heutige Lineup besteht aus: Puncc – Gesang und Gitarre, Pontan – Gitarre und Gesang, Jocke – Drums und Gesang... Gerade vor ein paar Tagen beschloß unser großartiger Freund und Basser, Svulf, wegzuziehen, um mit seiner Freundin zusammen zu leben. So steht derzeit zur Debatte, ob „Sterre" (Stefan von Hel und Völund Smed) unser neuer Basser wird.

 

Wenn wir über Eure neue Besetzung reden, wollen wir auch etwas über Euren neuen Schlagzeuger Jocke wissen. Jocke war ja seinerzeit der Sänger der RAC-Band Pluton Svea.

-Habt Ihr Vorurteile gegen RAC und White Power?

Wir haben keinerlei Vorurteile in irgendeine Richtung. Battle Scarred sind 100% unpolitisch. Meine persönliche Meinung ist, dass es viele gute RAC-Bands gibt. Ich selber spiele auch bei Steelcapped Strength. Ich bin aber nicht dem White Power-Gedanken verbunden... Meine Ansicht ist, dass Menschen das Recht auf jede erdenkliche Meinung haben, beides, rechts und links. Ich unterstütze den Gedanken der wahren Meinungsfreiheit; bin aber weder rot noch rassistisch. Ich bin patriotischer Skinhead, das ist alles...

 

- Existiert Jockes großartiges Projekt Pitbullfarm noch?

Ja, Pitbullfarm besteht in seiner Kraft weiter. Für den Sommer ist eine neue CD geplant und auch ein Gig auf dem schwedischen „Kuggnäs Festival", wo auch Battle Scarred auftreten.

 

-Wie sieht es bei Jocke mit Pluton Svea aus?

Gestorben und begraben.

 

Ich kenne nur Euer erstes Album, welches beim deutschen Label „Dim Records" erschienen ist. Und es ist ein großartiges Punkrock-, Streetrock- oder Oi!-Album. Wie würdet Ihr den Stil der ersten Platte bezeichnen?

Scheiße? Nein, hehehe... Ich denke ein Teil aller drei Richtungen... Wir nahmen es vor sieben Jahren auf. Ich war gerade 17 Jahre alt und bekam die ersten Haare an den Eiern (Hehehe...). Wir waren jung und aus dem Grunde liebe ich es immer noch. Es hat etwas Wahres „Reelles", was es ausdrückt. Aggressiv und wahr. Ich bezeichne es als Oi!, mögt es, oder lasst es...

 

Ich bin der Meinung, dass Ihr eine große Beeinflussung der genialen Toy Dolls und auch etwas von Condemned 84 habt. Stimmt Ihr dem zu?

Oh ja, die Toy Dolls werden ewig meine Favoriten sein! Ich höre sie nun schon über 15 Jahre und kann nicht genug von ihnen bekommen. Beim Texte schreiben wurde ich dann auch sehr von Condemned 84 inspiriert. Es sind beides großartige Bands, die den größten Respekt verdienen.

 

Gibt es zur Zeit neue Sachen von Euch und was? Werdet Ihr nach der Besetzungsänderung weiterhin Euren bewährten Sound spielen, oder geht Ihr in Zukunft einen neuen musikalischen Weg?

Wir haben massenweise neue Songs aufgenommen, nachdem das erste Album erschienen ist. 2001 entstanden 4 Stücke, die im Mai als EP erscheinen, der Name wird „Our unity is our strength" sein. Im Frühjahr 2004 nahmen wir 6 Lieder für eine Split mit unseren schwedischen Freunden von Unit Lost auf. Die CD erschien aber nie, so wird daraus eine Split-Single mit dem Titel „Lost in battle" erscheinen (ist bereits draußen – die Redax). Zum Ende von 2004 kam es dann zur Aufnahme unseres neuen Albums „Oi! Oi! Music, football & beer"... Viele sagen, daß es unser alter Sound ist, vielleicht etwas melodischer. Wir wollen unsere Musik nicht zu sehr ändern, weil wir den einfachen, schnellen, melodischen Sound mit kräftigen Gesängen mögen... Das macht Battle Scarred aus, warum sollte man das ändern?

 

„Dim Records" ist ein gutes Label und die meisten Veröffentlichungen sind großartig. Habt Ihr bei „Dim" angefragt, oder kam „Dim" auf Euch zu, um Euch unter Vertrag zu nehmen?

Wir stehen mit Uffe von Ultima Thule in Kontakt, der zu der Zeit (vor unserer ersten Aufnahme – die Redax) das Oi!-Punklabel „Attitude Records" ins Leben rief bzw. dies hatte. Er mochte unsere Sachen und wollte uns unter Vertrag nehmen. Allerdings wollte Uffe sich später auf Vikingrock und „Ultima Thule Records" konzentrieren. So redete er mit „Dim Records" und man war bereit, unsere CD zu produzieren. So kann man sagen, dass Uffe „Dim" für uns fand...

 

Ich las davon, dass es einige Schwierigkeiten mit Eurer ersten Scheibe gab und es auch zu Unstimmigkeiten mit dem Label kam. Was ist da dran?

Nein, Ärger gab es nicht. Es war, wie bereits vorhin gesagt. Uffe beschränkte sich fortan auf Vikingrock und machte für uns den Deal mit „Dim".

 

Wie oft spieltet Ihr bereits live, wo und mit welchen Bands?

Wir spielten nicht besonders oft live. 2003 hatten wir einen Gig mit Perkele und Demonbreed. 2004 traten wir auf dem „Kuggnäs Festival" auf, hier spielten wir zusammen mit Hel, Karolinera, Wacos und einigen anderen. Dieses Jahr ist bisher ein Konzert unter Dach und Fach. Wieder das „Kuggnäs Festival" und bisher spielen Mad Sin, Enhärjarna, Pitbullfarm und Demented Are Go, Unit Lost und weitere.

 

Wie sieht es mit Konzerten in Deutschland aus?

Wir würden liebend gern in Deutschland spielen. 1999 hätten wir bereits die Chance gehabt, mit Condemned 84 dort zu spielen. Durch einige Missverständnisse wurde dafür dann eine andere Band gebucht... So eine Scheiße! Ich würde liebend gerne bei Euch spielen! Ich liebe Deutschland, und die Leute dort sind nette Menschen. Ich traf auf eine Menge großartiger Punx und Skinheads, während ich, vor ein paar Jahren, mit Steelcapped Strength dort spielte.

 

In Skandinavien ist die Szene ziemlich gemischt, was Punx und Skins angeht und ich begrüße das. In Deutschland und anderen Ländern herrschen oft Differenzen, weil die meisten Punks nur aus Abschaum und linken Asis bestehen und sie Oi! hassen. Erzählt uns etwas über die Szene bei Euch und über die Meinung von Punx und Skins vereint.

Ich kenne das Problem mit dem Abschaum, die sich Punk nennen. „Versiffte Müllpunks machen niemandem Angst!" Hier in Schweden ist es mit der Einigkeit besser. Okay, auch wir haben Asipunks, aber vorherrschend sind Oi!-Punks, die Freundschaften zu Skins pflegen. Punx und Skins müssen sich einig werden! Und damit meine ich wahrlich nicht den verrückten Abschaum mit Dreadlocks, welche sich in Dreck wälzen und nach Anarchie schreien. Ich rede von wahren Punx und Skins!

 

Wenn ich Bilder skandinavischer Bands sehe, haben diese häufig eine Flasche Jägermeister in der Hand. Ich mag diesen Schnaps auch gerne. Was aber ist das Besondere gerade am Jägermeister?

Oh man!!! Du redest über das schwarze Gold ohne „Amen" zu sagen?!? Hehehe... Ja, Jägermeister ist Gottes Geschenk an uns Männer. Ich liebe ihn so sehr. Letztens trank ich drei Flaschen zuhause. Auch habe ich ein Jägermeistertattoo. Ich kann die Finger nicht von diesen wunderbaren Zeug lassen. Sicher trinke ich auch andere Sachen, aber nichts kommt einem kalten Jägermeister gleich.

 

Kennt Ihr den Bound For Glory-Song „No more Jägermeister" und was denkt Ihr darüber?

Ja, ich habe ihn gehört, aber der Metalstil ist nicht mein Ding. Ich mag das Stück wegen des Textes. „No more Jägermeister"??? Hehehe, davon kann man doch gar nicht genug bekommen!

 

Mit was für Leuten verbringt Ihr Eure Freizeit, Punx, Skins, oder mit beiden Gruppen?

Mit allen beiden... Meine besten Freunde bestehen aus Punx und Skins und ich liebe sie alle!

 

In Deutschland tragen etliche Leute Hard- und Hatecoreklamotten, wie in Amerika üblich. Typische Skins, oder patriotische Punx sieht man nur noch selten. Ist es in Skandinavien genauso, oder ist Eure Szene da traditioneller?

Wenn man zu Punkrock- oder Oi!-Gigs geht, sieht man all die klassischen Bands auf T-Shirts der Fans: Last Resort, 4 Skins, oder Condemned 84... Aber oft sieht man auch Agnostic Front, oder andere Hardcoreshirts im Mob. Meist werden klassische Skinheadshirts getragen, oder halt Perry, Lonsdale, oder Sherman-Hemden...

 

Erzählt uns etwas über die Texte Eurer ersten CD und vielleicht auch schon von der neuen Scheibe.

Auf der ersten CD geht es viel um das Skinheaddasein und Texte gegen Veganer. Auf dem neuen Album geht es wieder um die selben Themen. Skinhead – a way of life, gegen Bullen, Texte von der Straße halt.

 

Aus Schweden kommen ja auch die Jungs der genialen Band Ultima Thule. Kennt Ihr die Jungs (die Frage dürfte sich ja eigentlich erübrigt haben – die Redax) und wie denkt Ihr über sie?

Ja, Ultima Thule ist hier eine großartige Band. Uffe lernte ich vor Jahren kennen. Er ist ein astreiner Kerl, der uns sehr viel über all die Jahre half. Uffe machte für uns den Deal für unser erstes Album. Außerdem half er uns, dass wir auf dem „Kuggnäs Festival" im vergangenen Jahr spielen konnten und auch dieses Jahr spielen dürfen. Ich mag ihn sehr gerne und schulde ihm viel für all das, was er für uns tat.

 

Eure Einstellung zu Vikingrock?

Zur Zeit gibt es einige gute Bands aus der Richtung. Ich spiele bei Einhärjarna, welches eine geniale Band ist. Ich liebe sie und genieße deren Musik. Auch Völund Smed, aber deren Mitglieder spielen auch bei Hel eine Rolle und die mag ich nicht so. Ultima Thule ist auf jedem Fall die bekannteste Band des Genres und ich wuchs mit deren Musik auf. Ich mag sie sehr, besonders ihre frühen Sachen.

 

Viele skandinavische Bands sind von der nordischen Mythologie beeinflusst. Seid Ihr an nordischen Sagen interessiert?

Ja, bin ich. Das ist meine Geschichte und ich liebe es über alles, die alten Sagen zu lesen. Dies ist sehr interessant. Das ist es auch, was ich am Vikingrock so liebe. Du hörst die Texte und magst das Lied. Später kannst Du darüber in Büchern lesen. So wie „Gleipner" von Ultima Thule, oder „Alvid" von Völund Smed... Nachdem Du darüber gelesen hast, liebst Du die Musik noch mehr!

 

Eure Wünsche für die Zukunft?

Ich wünsche mir, weiter Platten zu machen und ich möchte mit unserer Band nach Deutschland kommen, um dort zu spielen. Ich hoffe, dass es irgendwann so weit ist.

Please give us a short band audiance.

Yeah. It was me (Puncc, Vocals/guitar) who formed the band 1995 along with my cousin and a friend from school. But the lieup from today is: Puncc –Vocals and guitar, Pontan –Guitar/vocals, Jocke –Drums/vocals… Just a few days ago our great friend and bass player Svulf decided to move away to live with his girlfriend. So we have discussed with "Sterre" (Stefan from Hel and Völund Smed) to be the new bass player.

 

When we speak about your new lineup, we want also know somethinmg about your new drummer Jocke. Jocke once was the singer of the RAC-band Pluton Svea.

-Have you any prejudice against RAC and White Power?

No, we don´t have any prejudice in anyway. Battle Scarred are 100% unpolitical. Personally views on the subject is that there are many good RAC bands around. I used to play with Steelcapped Strength me self. But I´m not into the White Power way of thinking… I think people have the right to any political views – both left and right, I support the true freedom of speech. But I´m not red or racist. I am a patriotic Skinhead, that´s all…

 

-Exist Jockes great project Pitbullfarm still at time?

Yes, Pitbullfarm is still going strong! They have planned a new CD for this summer and also a gig on the Swedish "Kuggnäs Festival", where Battle Scarred play aswell.

 

-What´s about Pluton Svea?

Dead and buried.

 

I know only your first album which was released by the german label "Dim Records" and it´s a great Punkrock-, Streetrock- or Oi!-album. What kind of music is it for you?

Crap? No. Hehehe… I kind of like it after all. We recorded it 7 years ago. I was only 17 years old and had just got hair on my balls (hehehe…). We were young and that is why I still like it. It has the true "real" feeling about it. Aggressive and true. I usually call us Oi! like it or not…

 

I find you have a influence by the great Toy Dolls and a bit from the Oi!-heroes Condemned 84. Is it right?

Oh yes! Toy Dolls will always be my favorite band! I´ve listened to them for 15 years now. And I still can´t be enough of them. Condemned 84 have also inspired me a lot when I write lyrics. They are both great bands who deserves the biggest respect ever!

 

Give it at time new stuff from you and what?After the lineup change, would you play the old sound, or goes you a new way of music in the future?

We have recorded a bunch of songs since the first CD. In 2001 we recorded 4 songs who will be released in May on a EP called "Our unity is our strength". In early 2004 we recorded 6 songs that was meant to the Split-CD with our Swedish friends Unit Lost. But the CD never came off, so instead there will be an Split-EP called "Lost in battle". And in late 2004 we recorded our new full length CD "Oi! Oi! music, football & beer"… People usually say that we sound pretty much the same as we used to do, but maybe a bit more melodic. We try not to change our music too much. Because we like the simple, catchy, melodic music with mob-backup vocals… that is what Battle Scarred are. Why change that?

 

"Dim Records" are a good label and much of releases are very great. Ask you "Dim" to record a CD, or "Dim" finds you?

We got in contact with Uffe from Ultima Thule who at the time ran his Oi!/Punk based record company "Attitude Records". He liked our stuff and decided to record it. But after a while Uffe thought he needed to concentrade on his Vikingrock based "Ultima Thule Records" instead. So he talked to "Dim", and they decided to release the CD instead. So it was Uffe who found "Dim" for us.

 

I´d read that it gave some problems with your first release and your label. Is it right and what´s the matter?

No, not trouble really. It was just as I said. That Uffe decided to concentrade on the Vikingrock music and made a deal with "Dim" to record it instead.

 

How often did you play live, where and with which bands?

We do not play live very often. 2003 we did one gig with Perkele and Demonbreed. In 2004 we played the "Kuggnäs Festival" with Hel, Karolinera, Wacos and a few others. This year we have one gig booked so far and this is the "Kuggnäs Festival" with Mad Sin, Enhärjarna, Pitbullfarm, Demented are Go, Unit Lost and many other bands…

 

What is with concerts in Germany?

We would really love to come and play in Germany!! We had the chance once in 1999 to play with Condemned 84. But after misunderstandings with "Dim Records", they booked another band instead. Fucking shit! I would have loved that! I love Germany and the German people are very nice people. I met a lot of great Punx and Skinheads when I played there with Steelcapped Strength a few years ago.

 

In Scandinavia the scene most mixed with Punks and Skins and I find it great. In Germany and other countries are often differents between Punks and Skins, because most Punks are scum and leftwing wankers and they hate Oi! Tell us a bit about the scene in your country and about your meaning from Punks and Skins unite.

I know about the problems with Scum-Punks in Germany. I would´nt call them Punks in any way!!! "Crusty scumbags punks not dread"!! Here in Sweden the unity is much better. Of course, we have some Scum-Punks here to. But the majority is Punx that are into Oi! and have a good friendship with Skinheads. Punx and Skinheads must unite! And of course I do not mean those greasy scumbags with dreadlocks who like to roll in dirt and shout anarchy. I´m talking about true Punx and Skins!

 

When I see pictures of Scandinavian bands, they´d often a bottle of Jägermeister in the hand. I like the stuff. What´s the special, why not an other stuff?

Oh man!!! You talking about the black gold without saying "Amen"? Hehehe… Yes, Jägermeister is gods gift to man. I love it so much. I always keep at least 3 bottles of it at home. I eaven have the Jägermeister-logo tattooed. I cannot put my finger on what is so special about it. It just is! Of course, I drink other stuff aswell. But nothing beat the taste of a cold Jäger!

 

Did you know the BFG song "No more Jägermeister", your statement to the song.

Yes, I have heard the song. And even though that Heavy Metal sound. I still like the song for the lyrics. "No more Jägermeister"??? Hehehe… You can never get enough of it!

 

In free time with which guys you spend most of the time, Punks, Skins or all two?

Both really… All my best friends are Punx and Skins. And I love them all!

 

In Germany most people wear Hard- or Hatecoreclothes like the American bands. Typical Skins or patriotic Punks are not often seen more. Is it in Scandinavia also with Hard- and Hatecore or the scene are traditional?

If you go to a Punkrock-gig or a Oi!-concert, you´ll see all of those classic bands on the shirts like Last Resort, 4 Skins or Condemned 84… But often also Agnostic Front and such Hardcore-bands. Mostly it´s classic Skinheadbands or people just wear Perrys, Lonsdale or Sherman-shirts…

 

Tell us a bit about the lyrics of your first release and maybe about the new songs.

The first CD we wrote much about being Skinhead and lyrics against vegans. On the new album there are pretty much the same. Skinhead way of life, anti police, streetbased lyrics really.

 

From Sweden came the great band Ultima Thule. Did you know the guys and your meaning about Uffe and Ultima Thule.

Yes. Ultima Thule is a big band over here and we´ve known Uffe for many years. He is a great guy who have helped us so much through the years. He got us the deal to record our first CD. And also helped us to play "Kuggnäs Festival" last year and again this year. I love him, and we owe him big time for all the stuff he have done for us!

 

Your statement about viking Rock?

Nowdays there aren´t many good band left. I play with Enhärjarna which is pretty classic band. I loved Enhärjarna, I joined them. Also Völund Smed, but the members went on to play with Hel instead, and I don´t like Hel that much. Ultima Thule is of course the biggest band, and I grew up with them too! I like them a lot, especially the early stuff.

 

Many scandinavian bands are influenced by the nordic mythologie. You´re interest in the nordic sagas?

Yes, I am. That´s my history! I love reading about the old sagas. It´s very interesting. That is what I like about Vikingrock too. You listen to the lyrics and like the song. And after you can go read about it in a book. Just like "Gleipner" by Ultima Thule or "Alvid" by Völund Smed… After you read the story, you enjoy the music much more!

 

Your wishes for the future?

I wish to keep on doing records, and I would like to go to Germany to play aswell. I hope I will one day!
